The album just launched on 14 February 2020 is named The Slow Rush. Features 12 tracks in the album and released the single called “Patience” a year before. Kevin Parker as the bandleader and the man behind Tame Impala, slightly transform his heavy psych-rock music into synth, disco-funk and dancefloor-ish music. Parker said that from all kinds of music that he is listening to, such as rock and roll or hip-hop and so many more, he just loves the drums the most. He always put the drums at the center of the music.

This album has been produced with so many layers from an Italian house piano to acid house. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and in his hometown, Australia. He said this album reflects a major life event in his life, which is to be married in early 2019 with his girlfriend, Sophie Lawrence. He thought in his new life stage is such as seeing himself as an old man and he finally could see a new beginning of the chapter of his life.

It makes his new album sounds and arranged beautifully with music from different eras such as 60s retro, 70s disco groove, and 90s house music. Parker wrote and produced everything on this album and said the goal to write “less structured and more meandering” melodies. He was inspired by Frank Ocean, the R&B musician, who made his music just like making brush strokes on a canvas without the intention to repeat it. Parker just wants to write his lyric to be more abstract, and he wants to make music that makes people feel something.

Most of the songs he wrote on this album comes from the drums, he influenced by Portishead and Cypress Hill on their ideas about rhythm. His attraction on the rhythm is also coming from some of hip-hop music and rappers which makes his drum sounds funky and propulsive, yet soothing. Because of his enjoyment in percussion, he prefers to work by himself.

Moving to L.A is a challenge for him, even though it is the global center of pop record-making. As the man who wrote his music alone in his studio, it is something he thinks could hold him back from doing more production because he needs to get used to writing in another room with other people. On the other hand, he always got supported by the other men who always help him during doing his music live since the early career. Currently, these people will come whenever Parker is going to do his music live, they are Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass, vocals) and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals).
